LENA Input Project
Line of Inquiry: When parents use two languages with their babies, how do they vary their speech in each language?
Using day long audio recordings made in the homes of Montreal families, this project examines how parents respond to their babies: do they use more acknowledgements, play sounds, or repetition depending on whether they use this language with their baby more or less frequently? The project also explores how early differences in bilingual word-learning environments show up in baby babbling sounds and vocabulary development.
