Lookit Project

Our lab pioneered testing how babies perceive speech using an online child science platform called Lookit https://lookit.mit.edu/. In this study, we played sounds to infants sitting on their caregiver’s lap at home: baby vowel sounds and adult vowel sounds. Our hypothesis is this: we believe that infants will listen longer to sounds produced by voices like their own than to adult voices. Why? Because infants have done so in our earlier lab experiments and because we think that their voices become interesting to them as they begin to babble. Stay tuned for results.
